Britney Spears to open VMAs

Britney Spears is to open the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

MTV Networks Music Group chief Executive Van Toffler confirmed that the vocaliser will do something "playfulness and unexpected" to launch the show.

Spears said in a statement: "MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I non be there to give up off their 25th VMAs? I'm excited to open the intact show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated."

Her manager recently denied claims that the popstar will perform at the event to make up for her disastrous comeback last year.

Talking about the decision to have her open the show instead, Toffler aforementioned: "I call back for Britney, people are rooting for her and she's truly on the road to recovery. It feels like it's her year. It's our twenty-fifth anniversary of the VMAs and she's been such a vital piece of MTV's history."

Toffler also claimed that producers are attempting to persuade Michael Jackson to make an appearance, saying: "We've been talk to him as well, I don't know if that's departure to happen. People fall in and fall out up until the daytime of the show."

Spears has been nominated in the Best Female category, patch the clip for her track 'Piece Of Me' is up for the Best Pop Video prize.
